Our staircase service starts with a detailed survey of the area proposed for the staircase. We either check the design provided or develop our own design to comply with current relevant building regulations. There are a number of choices open to you with regard to the materials used:
For a carpeted staircase, our staircases are generally constructed with mdf treads and plywood risers. An option is to have a laminated softwood tread, particularly if it is proposed to fit a stair runner. For an exposed timber tread, softwood or most hardwoods can be used, depending upon the interior scheme that you propose. Basic staircases have softwood for a painted or stain finish, or if the budget permits various hardwoods are suitable. The bottom of a staircase provides various options to make a statement, with bull nose treads, volute handrails etc
We can offer a choice of balustrading and spindles which have a great impact on the final appearance of the stairs, from square, through chamfered, ovolo moulded and full turned or twisted spindles. In addition we can offer a selection of handrail patterns, newel post cappings etc to choose from.
There are occasions when a complete replacement staircase can be avoided. To avoid the disruption of removing the whole staircase and to reduce costs it is sometimes possible to reform the existing staircase, replacing the balustrading and cladding the existing retained staircase.
